Simple grab something that you can squeeze between your legs.
Adopt your favourite ab exercise position.
Give the roller (in this case) a good ole squeeze.
Start doing your ab exercise routine.
Why does this work?
The Abdominals are intrinsically linked to the Adductor muscles of your inner thigh. Both are flexor muscles. When you "fire" one flexor muscle, the other flexor muscles want to join in too.
By squeezing the roller in between your legs, you are actively helping your other flexor muscles by getting them to join in before you even start.
Why is this a good thing?
If you have a weak core, or "underfiring" abdominal muscles, lower back pain due to a grumpy overworked lower back and now you have a way of increasing your ability to build strength in your core and abdomainal "6 - pack" muscles faster.
This can enable you to remove lower back pain more effectively through strength training of the core which then relieves strain int he muscles of the lower back.
